I was born and raised in the Oklahoma City area, grew up in a suburb and went to university in another. ;Since I went to university for a degree in Russian and Eastern European Studies, I have had numerous opportunities to travel, study, and volunteer abroad. I come from a family equally enamored with seeing the world. My sister has travelled extensively through South and Central America and my brother has studied, and now works, in Beirut. Currently, I'm in my last year of a masters program in history. I';ve always loved exploring the state, particularly through camping and hiking, and spent many summers at its beautiful lakes. Since moving to the heart of the city three years ago, I've spent much of my time discovering the Paseo Arts District and the Vietnamese area of town. In doing so, I';ve gotten to know many of the smaller neighborhood bars, music venues, and restaurants that offer fantastic food (cheap!), great music, and friendly atmospheres.
As I explored different parts of the world, I came to really appreciate meeting people who could show me the real city and give me a very unique perspective. Being able to return this favor is always great fun for me, especially in Oklahoma City, a place I know and love.
I've managed to see many parts of the world, with my longest period outside of the country studying in St. Petersburg, Russia. I've also spent a significant amount of time in Uganda working on development projects, and London doing research. Aside from these adventures, I've spent time in Egypt, Israel, Finland, Sweden, Ireland, and Mexico. I've also spent a considerable amount of time exploring the United States, with long road trips being one of my favorite activities.
The Paseo Arts festival in May brings out the city and state's best artists and musicians in an incredibly pleasant and unpretentious atmosphere. Because of its unique place in OKC, many 20-30 year olds like to call this place home, and as someone fitting this category, I appreciate it as an area in which you actually know your neighbors, see them out, and can walk from place to place instead of drive. This quality makes the festival even better, as it really is like a large gathering of friends (and, admittedly, some of those friends of friends that you weren't quite sure where they came from, but better not ask to leave out of politeness.). Despite reveling in all of this, I've recently discovered something more! The first Friday of every month, most of the galleries are opened up for late night viewing, wine tastings, and music. The next Saturday, many artists open their studios for demonstrations....... (Read more by clicking on my link)
