Introducing John - your Friend at the other End!

About Me

I am a 55 year old (but young at heart) retired solicitor living in the University City of Galway on the West coast of Ireland. I am married to Maria and am the dad of three cats. After thirty years practising as a Solicitor I decided that I wanted a new challenge and I have gone back to University. It's great to be a student again!

Made to Travel

All my life I have been interested in travel. I have an outgoing personality and enjoy meeting people from all walks of life. I will be able to offer you the best local travel advice for the West Coast of Ireland because I am a great organizer, a friendly, well-connected person and I have a good sense of humour!

Helping visitors to Galway

I was involved in welcoming 650,000 guests to Galway when the Volvo Round the World Yacht Race visited in May 2009. It was the most wonderful experience and I was proud to be involved in showcasing our beautiful city.

I have been a member and organizer at the Rugby and Golf Clubs down the years and am also an associate member of our Local Chamber of Commerce.

I have in the past organised golf trips for overseas visitors to Ireland, organising golf courses to play, transport, accommodation, restaurants etc. I have arranged for the non golfers to visit various places of interest locally of which there are many.

About Galway City

Galway City on the West Coast of Ireland is known as the City of the Tribes. The City has strong Spanish influences dating back to the 1600`s when the Spanish landed here first. In recent times Galway is recognised as the Cultural Capital of Ireland.

The city annually hosts a large number of festivals including a two week Arts Festival, a Film Festival and a Literature Festival. In addition to these festivals we have a seven day racing festival at the end of July and two Oyster Festivals later in the year.

There is a vibrant pub scene with live and free traditional music, a great selection of restaurants for all budgets, and an abundance of Hotels,Guest Houses and Hostels. When you add in a new museum, theatres and buildings of historical interest you can see why Galway is such a populatr tourist destination.

All in all we have loads to offer all travellers. Come to Western Ireland and I'll tell you how to have the time of your life!
