Introducing Mark - your Friend at the other End!

About Me

Hi, I´m Mark, a Spanish English guy, I love exploring the local area .
I´ve worked in archaeology in both Spain and the Uk and I originally came to Valencia 3 years ago to do a masters in cultural heritage. It was a sort of jump into the deep end as regards being immersed in local culture. I learnt a great deal and met a lot of people who work and are interested in the local area. Since then I´ve been slowly but steadily working in the heritage area. It´s not all about heritage though and I enjoy the local markets, mountain walking in the hidden interior of Valencia, visiting art exhibitions and local festivals. My curiosity for exploring the nooks and crannies of the area looking for contrasts and surprises means I can offer original and off the beaten track itineraries. Valencia´s a fascinating city, the blend of cultures who made their home here from the romans to the moors means that it´s got a fascinating heritage from it´s architecture to it´s cuisine starting with the famous paella. It´s location in the midst of the Valencian huerta, some of the most fertile and unique farmland in Spain, means that it´s markets are exceptional and aslo means plenty of urban and rural contrasts. Finally the recent efforts to renovate Valencia through spectacular space age architecture and blockbuster events has made it a hot destination in many ways

Some unique local experiences I can help you to plan are:

- mountain walking in the interior of the province of Valencia, including unspoilt villages and countryside
- trip to a correfocs festival in nearby villages(involves lots of noise and fireworks)
- bull runs in the villages surrounding Valencia, a small scale versions of the Pamplona Bullrunnings.
-out and about in the up and coming Ruzafa area in the city
- trips around the huerta(the unique farmland surrounding the city) a fascinating mix of urban and rural landscapes.

Ask me about these experiences and anything else in my area - I'd love to help you plan your perfect trip!

On a separate note over summer usually I'm in my hometown Tamworth, a largely rural part of central England with a great deal of history which I love to explore over summer. It's generally a forgotten area and is often bypassed on tourist routes, which is part of its charm. Anyway a link below is my small contribution to uncovering the area.
